St. Boniface Photographer

Documentary family, wedding and engagement photography in Winnipeg’s historic French Quarter — from the cathedral ruins to Esplanade Riel.

Photography in St. Boniface

St. Boniface pairs old-world architecture with wide river views, which makes it one of Teri’s favourite corners of Winnipeg to photograph. Whether you want the drama of the cathedral ruins or a relaxed riverside walk, there is a backdrop here for every kind of session.

Favourite St. Boniface photo spots

  • Saint-Boniface Cathedral & garden ruins. The stone facade and quiet memorial garden are a Winnipeg wedding and engagement classic.
  • Esplanade Riel. The pedestrian bridge frames the downtown skyline and catches beautiful evening light.
  • Whittier Park. Open green space and the Festival du Voyageur grounds — room to move for family and children’s sessions.
  • Provencher Boulevard & the French Quarter murals. Colourful walls and cafe-lined streets for an urban, editorial feel.
  • The riverbank promenade behind the cathedral. A soft, leafy path along the Red River for candid couple and maternity photos.

Sessions that suit St. Boniface

St. Boniface suits weddings, engagements and LGBTQ+ weddings especially well, along with grad portraits and culturally-rooted family sessions.

Planning your session

Street parking is easy on weekends near the cathedral. Aim for the last two hours before sunset — the light coming across the river is at its warmest, and the cathedral grounds are quietest.

St. Boniface photography — questions

Do you travel to St. Boniface for photo sessions?

Yes. St. Boniface is one of Teri’s regular shooting areas and there is no extra travel fee for sessions inside Winnipeg.

Where should we meet in St. Boniface?

Most sessions start at the Saint-Boniface Cathedral car park or at the St. Boniface end of Esplanade Riel, then move along the river as the light changes.

Can we photograph a wedding at the cathedral ruins?

The grounds are a popular public spot for portraits. Larger set-ups may need permission from the parish, which Teri can help you arrange.
